Home School Community Liaison (HSCL)
Hi,
my name is Miriam Howard and I am the Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) coordinator in Scoil Uí Mhuirí.
The HSCL programme is in place across the country because we recognise that parents and guardians are the most important people in their children’s lives, and they are the first people to educate them. It would be very difficult for us to teach your children without involving you, the parents in the process! It is the job of the HSCL to build bonds between the school, the home and the community and to support parents / guardians in the education of their children.
Part of my job includes:
- Visiting parents to offer advice and support if they have a problem relating to their child’s education. If your child is finding it difficult to come to school or is having troubles in their friendship groups or finding it difficult getting organised for school, it is my role to offer a friendly ear and support you the parent or guardian if it’s needed.
- Organising courses and activities for parents. For example, our visits to 3rd level institutions or parents’ courses such as cooking, crafts, well-being and first aid. All courses and events are free of charge.
- Sharing information between the school and home that could be helpful to you, the parents and guardians.
- Creating positive relationships between Scoil Uí Mhuirí and the families of our students. As HSCL my role is purely to support parents in their dealings with school.
I look forward to working closely with you to offer your child every opportunity to reach their full potential here is Scoil Uí Mhuirí. You can contact me at [email protected] or 0860498088.
