‼️LEAVING CERT STUDENTS 2020 some important information‼️

Dear students, parents/guardians

As Monday approaches you will have many questions that may require answering. Scoil Uí Mhuirí Guidance Dept wants to ease those concerns or worries that you may have by providing you with the opportunity to reading the excellent booklet from the IGC - The results are out- what now.

https://igc.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/6th-YEAR-THE-RESULTS-ARE-OUT-WHAT-NOW-I.G.C.-1.pdf and also the information sheet attached that students can have to reference to

The two documents give a comprehensive overview as to what your steps are with regards to accessing your results, how you receive or accept an offer, deferring an offer, to sitting one or more exam(s) in November, 2nd chance maths, appeals and also key dates that you must adhere to if offered a place. Please take note of dates and times for deadlines.

Students also has access to the CAO website if they need access to the points calculator
http://www.cao.ie/index.php?page=points_calc

or if they need to refer to the CAO Handbook
http://www.cao.ie/handbook.php

Please remember if you are offered your first choice, you cannot be offered anything else. Remember 'genuine order of preference' This was your number 1 choice and if you are successful in securing your No.1 all other courses will be deleted and you will not be offered another course further down your list.
You may be fortunate to get 2 offers one from a level 6/7 and one from a level 8. You must make the decision as to which course you wish to choose; you cannot accept both.

You may be offered your 3rd choice, ACCEPT it, as it won't rule you out of been considered for your 1st or 2nd choice in round 2,3,4 depending if places become available and points change. Just because you accept a course does not mean you are not in the running for courses higher up on your list.

If you don't get an offer in round 1 please don't panic. There are many more rounds to go. Take note of the dates of the other rounds from the above booklet.

If you applied to a PLC and are still willing to take this course up, you will have had communication from the college about your start date etc. Please contact the PLC college if you are no longer accepting the place offered.
If you have now decided that you wish to apply for a PLC ring the college and ask to speak to the course director of the course that you wish to apply for. Also check online for their application process or for their virtual open days.

For those who applied for apprenticeships please make sure your employer has you registered as an apprentice and contact SOLAS in Dundalk with any queries.

Please take the time to read the above information and especially the links to CAO and IGC and you will have many of your questions answered.

Please remember all the supports that are out there for you, and the free phone number 1800 265 165

We take this opportunity to wish each one of you the very best of luck on Monday
