Article on Study Skills Week in Scoil Uí Mhuirí, Dunleer, Co. Louth.

Students in Scoil Uí Mhuirí, Dunleer, have participated in a very successful Study Skills Week. This week, which was organised by teachers Anna McCready and Declan Clarke, was designed to provide the students with the skills and information needed to deal with the academic challenge at second level.

The week contained talks and workshops on various aspects of studying. Two Transition Year students, Seoda Matthews and Jessica McGrane, delivered talks to First Year students; Ms. McCready and Mr. Clarke provided a workshop for students from 3rd and 6th years who will be sitting State examinations next June, and a variety of other activities were spread throughout the week.

First Year students entered two competitions. The first, won by Robyn McGuffin, was to design your ideal study space. The second, won by Ava Copas, was to design an inspirational quote: Ava’s winning entry was as follows:

“Your mind is like a parachute: it only works if it is open”.

Another competition was organised for students in second year as a Study Skills crossword which was won by Annie Byrne with Nicola Bolger as the runner up.

Presenting the prizes, local Bank of Ireland Branch Manager, David Duffy, congratulated the students on their fine work, and he advised them to take on board the tips that their teachers had given them during this worthwhile week.

The accompanying photographs show the winners being presented with their prizes from David Duffy, Dunleer Branch Manager with Bank of Ireland, along with Anna McCready and Declan Clarke.
